The Hoima-Butiaba-Wanseko Road (111 Km) is currently a gravel road that crosses the Hoima, Buliisa and Masindi Districts in Western Uganda. The road starts about 225 Km west of Kampala and it ends in Wanseko at the shores of Lake Albert which is a landing site/ferry terminal and a Gateway to the West Nile Region.
The road traverses the area near close to the Lake Albert where oil fields have been recently discovered and further explorations are ongoing.

The road is gravel and has been under regular routine and periodic maintenance interventions, the steep section of the escarpment has bituminous surfacing. However, due to an increase in economic activities within the area (especially oil exploration), the corresponding population and traffic growth, the road has become expensive to maintain as a gravel road.

It is therefore necessary that the road be upgraded to a paved road. Improving of the existing horizontal and vertical alignments and widening of the existing road; Upgrading of the existing gravel road to Asphalt Concrete paving; Construction of soil and rock embankments; Excavation of soil and rock cuts; Lengthening or replacement of existing culverts and construction of slab culverts and box culverts; Construction of gabion, drainage ditches, drainage structure and other protection works upgrading of the existing gravel road; Supply and installation of all road/traffic ancillary elements;

The completed road will have an overall carriageway of 7.0 m with an Asphaltic Concrete Surfacing. This will be flanked by two 2.0 m wide double bituminous surface treatment shoulders.
