The Namtumbo – Tunduru road is situated in Ruvuma Region, Southern part of Tanzania bordering Malawi to the West and Mozambique to the South. The 193 km road starts from Namtumbo and runs through woodland, bush land thicket and grasslands and crosses Selous-Niassa wildlife corridor over a 40 km stretch and ends in the centre of the Tunduru District.

The road and the surroundings characteristics are as following:

  • Carriageway Width (m) 6.50
  • Shoulder Width (m) 1,50 (Rural and Urban)

The project included upgrading works under Double Bituminous Surface Treatment, and rehabilitation and widening works of urban roads.

Hydraulic: road surface drainage with the drainage of stormwater runoff from the road surface and the surfaces adjacent.

Subsurface drainage and Erosion protection measures for the slopes along the roads.
