DETAILED ENGINEERING DESIGNS AND SUPERVISION OF THE CONSTRUCTION OF URBAN ROADS USING SEGMENTED/CONCRETE PAVING BLOCK AND COBBLESTONE TECHNOLOGY IN CENTRAL AND MUCHINGA PROVINCE
The project consists on the construction of urban roads using Segmented Paving Block Technology and cobblestone on approximately 2000 km of urban roads of the Zambian urban road network which are in a deplorable condition.
The main focus of this project is job creation by the Zambian Government as its implementation relies mostly on labour intensive methods of construction. The implementation of the Pave Zambia 2000 project will lead to the improvement of the urban part of the Core Road Network (CRN) in turn spurring poverty alleviation and connectivity to agricultural/marketing activities and other community facilities.
The urban roads in deplorable condition in Central and Muchinga Provinces are part of the Pave Zambia 2000 project which is an initiative of the Government of the Republic of Zambia aimed at constructing urban roads using segmented Paving Blocks through labor intensive methods.
The project included rehabilitation and widening works of urban roads.
The project also included the following Drainage Infrastructures: (i) Road surface drainage with the drainage of stormwater runoff; (ii) Subsurface drainage with the interception and disposal of groundwater flows; (iii) Erosion protection measures for the slopes.
